The first UK venue group to achieve Sustainable Wedding Alliance Accreditation

We’re proud to announce that Artemis has officially become the first wedding venue group in the UK to achieve accreditation from the Sustainable Wedding Alliance (SWA). This marks a major milestone in our journey towards a more sustainable future for weddings and events.

Our partnership with The Sustainable Wedding Alliance

Our partnership with the SWA began in 2023, focusing on embedding sustainable practices throughout our head office operations. The accreditation celebrates our progress so far and the commitment of our teams, partners, and suppliers helping us create lasting, positive change across our business.

While the accreditation currently applies to our head office, our venues are on their own journey towards individual certification. Together, we’re creating one shared sustainability ethos, delivered through locally led goals that reflect the unique character of each venue.

Our relationship with the SWA isn’t just a box-tick exercise. It’s a recognition that Artemis is genuinely leading the way in sustainable weddings, inspiring our teams and clients to celebrate responsibly.

Guided by our sustainability policy

The SWA accreditation builds on the commitments set out in our sustainability policy, which outlines our purpose, shared responsibility, and nine core priorities. These priorities guide how we operate, grow and innovate, ensuring every decision we make supports a more sustainable future for weddings and events.

Our policy focuses on areas such as sustainable travel, waste reduction, energy conservation, and community support, all underpinned by values of transparency, stewardship, and collaboration. It’s a practical roadmap for how we’re working to protect the places where we operate, empower our teams, and inspire others in our industry to do the same.

Why sustainability matters to us

Our focus on sustainability goes beyond meeting industry standards; it’s about doing what’s right for our people, couples, and the planet. For Artemis, it’s both a responsibility and an opportunity to lead positive change in an industry built on creating unforgettable moments.

As an organisation, our sustainability journey represents our commitment to building a better future for our business, clients, and the world we’re part of. It strengthens our position as leaders within the UK weddings and events industry and reflects our belief that progress and purpose should go hand in hand. By embedding sustainability into our operations, we ensure our growth contributes to something bigger than ourselves.

For our teams, being part of Artemis means their work doesn’t just create unforgettable weddings and events, it helps protect the planet, support local communities, and build a culture we can all be proud of. Sustainability enhances the day-to-day experience of working at Artemis, from reducing waste and improving well-being to creating a culture where everyone feels proud of their impact. Our people are central to this journey; their creativity and passion bring our commitments to life.

For our couples and guests, our commitment to sustainability is about choice, connection, and creating a lasting legacy. Celebrating responsibly means your wedding is beautiful and leaves a positive mark on the world. From locally sourced, seasonal menus to thoughtful travel options, every decision helps create an unforgettable, personal, and environmentally conscious celebration. We want our couples to know that choosing Artemis means making memories that feel good and do good.

Building a more sustainable future

Our journey towards accreditation has been driven by the belief that beautiful weddings and events shouldn’t come at the planet’s expense. Over the past year, we’ve taken significant steps to reduce our environmental impact, empower our teams, and operate more responsibly across every part of the business.

Head office and operational changes

At our head office, we’ve focused on building the foundations for long-term change. We’ve introduced comprehensive recycling systems and are moving towards a fully paperless operation, replacing printed materials with digital tools wherever possible. Introducing the TALOS recruitment system has helped us streamline hiring processes and eliminate unnecessary paper use, while hand dryers have replaced paper towels to reduce waste.

Education has been another key focus. Our Sustainability Champions and senior leaders, including CEO Stuart Owens, have completed Carbon Literacy training, ensuring sustainability is understood, championed and embedded at every level of the organisation.

Sustainable travel

EV chargers have been installed in all our owned and joint venture venues, to promote greener travel for guests and staff, and we’ve started transitioning our company vehicles to electric models. Our new Sustainable Travel Policy encourages lower-carbon journeys, from public transport to car sharing, helping to make every event that little bit kinder to the planet.

Sustainable menu changes

We’ve also made meaningful progress within our food and beverage operations. Our chefs have introduced seasonal menus that champion local ingredients and suppliers, reducing food miles while celebrating the best of British produce. We now print menus on recycled paper and continue to explore ways to make our culinary offering even more sustainable.

Working in the community

Beyond our venues, we’re proud to play an active role in the communities where we work. We’ve supported local food banks and domestic abuse charities, taken part in litter-picking initiatives, and launched a partnership with Magic Breakfast, helping to provide healthy breakfasts for children at risk of hunger across the UK.

Each of these initiatives represents a step forward, carrying both individual importance and helping to form the foundation of our collective impact. While there’s still plenty more to do, these actions show our commitment to progress, transparency and accountability as we continue to evolve and inspire change across the wedding and events industry.

Looking to the future

Our mission has always been to create unforgettable weddings and events, and we believe that can only be achieved when we care for the world around us. Becoming the first UK venue group to achieve SWA accreditation is an important step, but it’s just the beginning.

We’ll continue working with our teams, venues, couples, and partners to raise standards, inspire conscious choices, and shape a more sustainable future for our industry.
